Mayko Araújo is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt under Leonardo Vieira and a prominent representative of the Checkmat team in the United States. Born on March 19, 1987, in Brasília, Brazil, he began his martial arts journey with karate at age 9 before transitioning to BJJ in 2001 after being inspired by Royce Gracie’s performances in the early UFC events. His first instructor was Erico Pereira, and later, Ronny Lis, who promoted him from blue to brown belt. As a brown belt, Araújo trained under Leonardo Vieira, who awarded him his black belt in December 2011
