About Us
Here at Chris Ewing Karate (CEK) we train in the style of karate known as Wado-Kai which is a blend of traditional Japanese Karate and Jujitsu. The club were former members of the Scottish Karate Federation until 2017 after which we formed our own independant federation, CEK Association which is affiliated to The Scottish Karate Governing Body which is itself a member of the British Karate Federation which in turn is a member of the over arching World Karate Federation. CEK is fully regulated by Disclosure Scotland.
The chief instructor and owner of the club is Chris Ewing who started Karate in 1986 aged just 6 years old and attended Meadowbank Karate in Edinburgh run by Hamish Adam MBE 9th Dan. Chris progressed through the various ‘kyu’ grades (belts) and received his 1st Dan black belt in 1994, he is currently a 6th Dan.
During Chris’ 30+ years of Karate he has won many titles including Scottish, British, European and Commonwealth championships. It was after achieving his Scottish All Styles and Wado European titles that Chris decided to retire from the national squad and to take up coaching.
