​Lucas André Galvão Protasio is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt and elite competitor representing Checkmat. Born on May 7, 2000, in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, Lucas was introduced to martial arts through judo, which he practiced for seven years before transitioning to BJJ at age 14 under the guidance of his father, Clóvis Protasio, a BJJ black belt himself. Lucas’s dedication and talent quickly became evident as he climbed the ranks, earning his black belt in 2021 from coaches Thiago and Bruno Barreto. Throughout his career, he has amassed numerous accolades, including titles at the IBJJF World Championship, Pan Championship, European Open, and Abu Dhabi Grand Slam. His competitive record boasts over 90 wins, showcasing his prowess in both Gi and No-Gi formats. Lucas’s journey reflects a blend of familial inspiration and personal determination, making him a prominent figure in the BJJ community.
