About Us

​Luigi Mondelli is a 5th-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, renowned instructor, and head coach at American Top Team Connecticut. Born on March 24, 1972, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he began his martial arts journey at age 15, exploring disciplines like karate, kung-fu, and judo before dedicating himself to BJJ in 1991. Under the tutelage of André “Dedeco” Almeida, Mondelli earned his black belt in 2001. In 2003, he relocated to Danbury, Connecticut, establishing his first BJJ program and later joining American Top Team. In 2011, he founded Kore Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, an association emphasizing the integration of judo and wrestling techniques into BJJ. Mondelli has coached numerous MMA fighters, including UFC veteran Glover Teixeira, and has been recognized as one of the top MMA coaches in the U.S. His accolades include multiple Pan American and World Masters championships.
