About Us
Mansher Khera was born on the 15th of April, 1992 in New York – USA.
Originally from India, both of Mansher’s parents worked hard to maintain a standard of living, which did not allow them the necessary time to raise a young child. With that in mind, they decided to send 3-year-old Mansher to boarding school in Punjab, a state in India that is regarded as the heart of the country’s Sikh community (Munch’s ancestry). Khera returned 10 years later, going on to attend a public school in Queens – NY.
Growing up Mansher had always been a fan of martial arts, having trained taekwondo in his childhood. When he was 17 years old he decided to return to combat sports, influenced by The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) series. As he had one friend who trained jiu-jitsu at the time, he decided to follow his friend’s footsteps and attend grappling classes at the Mayo Academy with coaches Jasper Ian and Luís Aldana (who were purple belts at the time).
Mansher didn’t stay at the Mayo Academy for long, signing on to Marcelo Garcia‘s gym in Manhattan shortly after the legendary grappler established himself in New York. Khera’s desire to improve and compete turned him into one of Garcia’s most dedicated students, earning him his black belt on April 2015, becoming the very first student of Marcelo to be promoted from white to black belt by the Alliance instructor
