José Matheus Macedo de Lira Luna, known as Matheus Luna, is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt under Ricardo Feliciano (Pantcho) and Lucas Leite of the Checkmat team. Born on February 21, 1995, in Recife, Brazil, he and his twin brother, Mathias Luna, began their BJJ journey at age 16, training under coaches Thiago and Bruno Barreto at the Barreto Brothers Academy in Natal, Brazil. In 2017, the Luna brothers moved to the United States to further their BJJ careers, and both were promoted to black belt on August 24, 2019
