About Us
Sebastian Lalli is a 5th-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a co-founder of the Checkmat academy. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, he moved to Brazil at the age of 3 and began his martial arts journey with taekwondo at 10, later transitioning to BJJ in 1995. Under the tutelage of Carlos Lima, he earned his black belt in 2002 and went on to establish “Equipe 1,” one of the largest academies in southern Brazil. In 2008, he co-founded Checkmat alongside the Vieira brothers and Chico Mendes. Lalli has achieved significant success in competitions, including CBJJE World Champion titles in 2007 and 2011, and the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship in 2010 (Master division). His preferred technique is the guard, and he competes in the featherweight division (64kg/141lbs).
