Sergio “Bolão” Souza is a distinguished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt under the legendary Carlson Gracie, renowned for his innovative guard techniques and significant contributions to the sport. Born on July 23, 1964, in Manaus, Brazil, he began his BJJ journey in the early 1980s and quickly rose to prominence in the competitive scene. Notably, he secured victories over esteemed competitors such as Jean Jacques Machado, Fabio Gurgel, and Leo Castello Branco, earning the “Athlete of the Year” award in 1985 from the Rio de Janeiro and Niterói Sports Journalists Association (LINJI) .
