About Us
BJ was drawn to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and grappling following Royce Gracie’s successes in the early Ultimate Fighting Championships. BJ’s grappling began with wrestling and continued during his service in the United States Marine Corps. In 2007, BJ started training Jiu-Jitsu at the Brown Institute in Centerville, OH. After moving to Columbus in 2008, he began seriously training Jiu-Jitsu with Dr. Jeff Hudson and Robin Gieseler at the Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy. In 2014, BJ was awarded his black belt from Robin Gieseler.
An active competitor and firm instructor, BJ pushes himself and his students to do more than they think possible. He believes the true benefit of Jiu-Jitsu is the confidence that comes from overcoming difficult situations. Jiu-Jitsu is both physically and mentally challenging and BJ’s goal is to guide his students to embrace and overcome these challenges on a daily basis.
