About Us
Michael Toyama, with other committed fellow students, established SABJJ in 1999. The Academy was one of the first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Academy’s in Adelaide. In the early days of SABJJ, Michael and his students would regularly travel interstate and overseas to compete in Jiu Jitsu tournaments, as no competitions were held in South Australia. During that time SABJJ Competition Team became well known for their success on the mats, winning many national and international BJJ titles. Michael Toyama’s legacy continues on the mats at SABJJ Toyama Jiu Jitsu, where students train and compete in honor of Michael’s Jiu Jitsu philosophy and Jiu Jitsu style.
